The Programs
The Taiwan Mercy Program was created for the sole purpose of finding homes for the older children of Taiwan, age 48 months and older, and Special Needs Children. When a waiting child is not available, most adoptive parents choose to be put on a waiting list for the referral of a child that meets their desired age and gender. If you are interested in adopting a younger Asian child of 6 months to 4 years, please see one of our other Asian programs, China or Kazakhstan.
The Taiwan Infant Program is specifically for children 12 to 47 months of age. Due to the limited number of younger children available, the orphanage in Taiwan has agreed to partner with our agency to open this program to the residents of New York. The approximate time for a referral is 18 months after the dossier is ready. The court process is quick and the length of stay in the country is very short.
Parent Eligibility
Couples married for at least five years may adopt from Taiwan. Single applications are not being accepted at this time. The orphanages require that applicants be in the age range of 30 to 50 years old. The culture in Taiwan favors adoptive homes without children, or just a few. Families with four or more children may be accepted into the program, but referral times may be severely extended.
The Travel
Taiwan is a beautiful country! The duration spent in Taiwan is only 3 to 5 business days. The people of Taiwan are very courteous and friendly toward adopting parents. Only one parent is required to travel. The adoptive parents are responsible for the cost of travel, passports, homestudy, and INS approval.
The Fees
The total fees for the Taiwan Mercy Program (age 48 months and older) are based on what orphanage the child is being adopted from, and the special needs (if any) of the child. The fees for the Taiwan Infant Program are higher.
