Success Stories

As I sit here and think of how wonderfully blessed we all are, I can almost cry for the joy that is in our hearts. As you all know, almost a year ago Chris and I decided to adopt a child. Chris left for Taiwan on December 2nd and arrived home with our Angel, Jia-Jiun, last Saturday, December 10th, 2005. We have changed Jia-Jiun's name to Matthew Li. Matthew is five and a half years old. Chris and his father flew to Taiwan while Michael and I prepared for Matthew's arrival. They had a wonderful time in Taiwan. Chris said that the people of Taipei are so kind and helpful - and just all around wonderful. We went through the Faithful Adoption international adoption agency, and they were all great! Things went very smoothly through the entire adoption process . . . God was truly watching over us and standing by our sides with all the decisions that were being made along the way. We could not have done this without Him.

Matthew has had a very busy week meeting family, friends, doctor appointments and of course, shopping with Mom. Matthew is already such a blessing to us, and we are so overjoyed to have him in our lives. Our little guy has traveled half way around the world to be a part of our family, and he fits right in. We’ve already had so many laughs and new experiences with Matthew; he really is a blessing from God.

Sometimes things in life happen “good and bad” and at the time we cannot understand why. Seven years ago when I gave birth to our son, Michael, and I suffered an Amneotic Embolism, the doctors told Chris and my family that Michael and I should NOT have survived. Three wonderful things DID happen. First, Michael and I did survive, Chris became a born again Christian and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and third, we now have our little Matthew. For the past seven years, I often think back on what happened to Michael and I and I would ask myself . . . “why am I here? What was God’s purpose of my surviving such a horrible thing as an amniotic embolism?” Well, that question I often ask God has finally been answered after seven years. It’s Matthew. If it would not have been for that day, Matthew would not be in our lives.

I’m so thankful for the trust I have in the Lord, and know in my heart that when things do not go as we always want them to, He always has a plan. When we went to the airport last Saturday to pick up Chris and Matthew, I got down on my knees with my arms held out and when Matthew came around that corner and saw me, he started running towards me saying “Mommy . . . Mommy!”. Now my heart no longer asks why the good Lord kept me on this earth . . . it was to be the best mother I can to two little boys, Michael and Matthew.

Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year to you all!

Love in Christ, The H. Family
